Kitchen Studio is seeking expressions of interest and applications from experienced directors, with a strong background in marketing and franchising, to join our board as an independent member.

Established in 1983, Kitchen Studio is New Zealand’s largest franchised kitchen retailer, with 16 showrooms nationwide. We are proud to have been recognised as one of New Zealand’s most trusted brands for nine consecutive years.

Kitchen Studio operates along the lines of a co-operative, with the franchisor owned by franchisee shareholders. You will join an experienced board comprising three shareholder directors and one independent chair. In this role, you will provide governance stewardship and contribute to the strategic direction of the company, with a particular focus on marketing and brand development as Kitchen Studio enters its next phase of growth and commercial alignment.

Particular skills/competencies sought

All candidates must demonstrate sound commercial judgement, a commitment to high standards of personal integrity, and ethical conduct. We are building a diverse board where each director brings a unique area of expertise. You will play an active role in shaping the company’s strategy and will serve as a key liaison for executives and external stakeholders.

Applicants must have:

  • Proven capability in providing strategic oversight and guidance
  • A strong background in marketing; expertise in digital marketing is highly advantageous
  • A track record of growing shareholder value
  • Exceptional business and commercial acumen
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills
  • Previous board experience and a solid understanding of governance principles.

Additional expertise in two or more of the following areas is desirable:

  • Retail environments
  • Franchising and/or co-operative business models
  • Diversity and Inclusion

Commitment required

The board meets 12 times annually:

  • 5 in-person meetings (full day)
  • 7 online meetings (half day)

In addition to regular board meetings, members are expected to attend:

  • Annual  strategic planning session with the Board and Management (1 full day)
  • Annual conference with franchisees and Management (2 days)
  • 3 Owners Forums with franchisees and Management (1 day each, typically following a board meeting)
  • Annual General Meeting (half day, linked to an Owners Forum)

Term

Three (3) years, with the opportunity to serve up to three (3) terms.

Geographical Considerations

Preference will be given to applicants residing in Auckland.
