Organisation description

Pharmacy Wholesalers (Bay of Plenty) Ltd (PWL) was founded as a co-operative in 1978 by a group of local pharmacists and pharmacy owners with the sole intention of providing the best possible returns and service to its members.

For more than 45 years, PWL has prided itself on being an advocate for and supplier to community pharmacies, focusing on being a strong regional wholesaler that is owned by those it serves.

Today, the current Board of Directors (five regional pharmacy owners and one independent) remains committed to delivering the benefits and services that independent pharmacies in New Zealand require now and in the future.

One of PWL’s key points of difference from non-co-operative wholesalers is that our shareholders are our members – there are no corporate shareholders to appease.

We genuinely care about our customers, which is why PWL doesn’t deal with discounters, isn’t governed offshore, and invests its profits, when available, back into our members.

Being a member of PWL is best described as an investment in the future for your community pharmacy.

Aside from service, the financial returns to your dispensary and retail business are provided in the form of discounts, which are only available to our members.

Membership in PWL also enables community pharmacies to influence the pharmacy supply chain, through our voice and strength in numbers.
