 IT Team Leader

Christchurch Casino | Onsite, Christchurch

Lead from the front. Stay hands-on. Keep business-critical technology running.

Enjoy solving technical problems and helping others do their best work? Christchurch Casino is looking for an IT Team Leader who can combine practical technical expertise with clear direction, sound judgement and a strong service focus. This is a hands-on opportunity to lead day-to-day IT delivery in an environment where reliable, secure technology matters.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager Information Technology, you’ll coordinate the team’s daily priorities while working alongside colleagues on support, infrastructure, cybersecurity and technology projects. You’ll provide technical guidance, help resolve complex issues and turn approved plans into dependable operational delivery.

  • Lead daily workloads, coordinate roster and leave coverage, and coach and support the IT team.
  • Provide hands-on troubleshooting and escalation support across infrastructure, networks, endpoints, identity and business applications.
  • Maintain secure, reliable systems through monitoring, maintenance, patching and practical cybersecurity controls.
  • Coordinate backup and recovery testing, technology upgrades and well-planned changes.
  • Work with departments and specialist vendors, keeping communication clear and documentation current.

What you’ll bring

You’ll bring strong hands-on IT infrastructure and operational support experience, along with experience leading, mentoring or coordinating technical colleagues. You’ll be comfortable prioritising competing demands, taking ownership of issues and explaining technical matters to people with different levels of technical knowledge.

Your technical background will include a practical mix of Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Active Directory, networking, virtualisation, cloud or endpoint technologies, supported by an understanding of cybersecurity, backup and recovery, and change management. You don’t need to be an expert in every technology—we’re looking for technical breadth, practical judgement and the ability to recognise when specialist support is needed.

Relevant IT qualifications, industry certifications or equivalent demonstrated professional experience are preferred. Experience in a regulated environment would be an advantage.

An interest in using AI and automation responsibly to improve IT support and everyday processes would be an advantage, with sound judgement around privacy, cybersecurity and checking the accuracy of outputs.

Working arrangements

This role is based onsite at Christchurch Casino and participates in a rotating roster, including evening shifts and associated on-call coverage, in accordance with agreed employment arrangements. A Department of Internal Affairs Certificate of Approval is required where applicable to the position.

Interested?

If you enjoy staying close to the technology while helping a team deliver, we’d like to hear from you. Please submit your CV and a cover letter outlining your relevant technical experience and approach to team leadership.
