Southern Cross North Harbour Hospital is the only private surgical in-patient hospital on the Auckland’s North Shore. North Harbour Hospital has 8 Operating Rooms, a 14 bed Post Anaesthetic Care Unit, a modern well-equipped day stay facility unit and a 70-bed ward which includes a 4-bed intermediate care facility (ICF). 

Surgical specialities include General Surgery, Gynaecology, Oral & Maxillofacial surgery, Urology, Orthopaedic surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive surgery, Urology, Otolaryngology and Robotic Surgery. In addition to the hospital, the broader North Shore campus is also home to a purpose-built endoscopy suite, on-site cardiology services, cancer care, pharmacy, sports medicine, radiology and more.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We’re on the lookout for a caring and motivated Healthcare Assistant to join our busy and supportive surgical ward team. This is a hands-on, rewarding role where you’ll work alongside our Registered Nurses to deliver exceptional care to patients undergoing a variety of elective surgical procedures.

You’ll be right at the heart of the patient experience, providing practical support, reassurance, and kindness at every step of their journey. From assisting with personal cares and mobility, to helping patients feel safe, comfortable, and valued, your contribution will have a real and lasting impact.

Day-to-day, you’ll play a key role in keeping the ward running smoothly. You’ll support with patient transfers, meal services, and maintaining a clean, organised environment, while also assisting the nursing team with a mix of clinical and non-clinical tasks. No two days are the same, and you’ll thrive in an environment where teamwork, adaptability, and a positive attitude are essential. This is a full-time (1 FTE) permanent position, working on a rotating roster across Monday to Sunday.

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Completion of New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing (Level 3) 
  • Completion of NCEA Level 2 / Sixth Form Certificate (or equivalent)
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting, ideally as a Healthcare Assistant 
  • A genuine passion for caring for people and supporting patients through their recovery
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise in a busy ward environment
  • A team-focused mindset, with the confidence to take initiative when needed
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence interacting with patients, whānau, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Confidence using computer systems and Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook, and Excel
