Full time position with Otago’s leading Motor Group

Cooke Howlison is Otago’s leading motor group incorporating the Toyota, Hyundai, Renault, MG, GMSV, BMW, Mini, Isuzu Utes, and Isuzu Truck franchises with approximately 150 staff.

We are looking for an experienced Health and Safety Advisor with relevant qualifications preferred to manage the full range of Health and Safety requirements and also provide assistance with Environmental compliance and Human Resource functions.

There is already a strong Health and Safety culture and this appointment will have the opportunity to further develop this to provide visitors and staff with the safest environment possible.

The role includes but is not limited to:

  • working with Managers and Staff representatives to implement continuous Health and Safety improvements
  • running Health and Safety meetings
  • managing and reviewing Health and Safety systems with a continuous improvement focus
  • contractor management
  • hazard and risk management
  • accident/incident investigation
  • mentoring Health and Safety staff representatives
  • coordinating staff Health and Safety training
  • keeping updated on all relevant legislation
  • facilitating new employee staff inductions
  • responsible for all Health and Safety and HR reporting
  • environmental compliance
  • assisting management with recruitment and onboarding
  • assisting management with the exiting process
  • general HR administration

Skills and attributes:

  • A level 4 Health and Safety qualification or higher is preferred but not essential and/or 2+ years experience in a Health and Safety role,
  • Good communication skills,
  • Strong interpersonal skills,
  • Strong Health and Safety and HR support focus
