Occupational Health and Safety Specialist
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Health and Safety Business Partner to join our team at Port Taranaki.
The opportunity
We are seeking a motivated and dynamic individual that can collaborate across all levels to support successful delivery of our health, safety, and wellness initiatives. This is a fantastic opportunity to play an important part in our improvement journey and contribute to our long-term success. Reporting to the Health and Safety Manager, the key responsibilities will include:
- Being a visible presence around the business to provide health and safety leadership and coaching, while building relationships, and promoting good practices.
- Supporting the organisation to meet our statutory Health and safety obligations, as well as with keeping up with legislative changes and providing ongoing advice across all levels of the business.
- Assisting the Health & Safety Manager in designing and implementing strategic health and safety priorities, while conducting assurance activities and using insights to develop data-driven initiatives.
- Providing expert H&S input for long-term planning and administering our Risk Manager system.
- Leading major event responses and investigations and supporting risk reduction through the critical risk review program.
- Contributing to monthly and annual reporting for the Executive Leadership team and Board, while maintaining statistical records, and analysing trends.
- Managing workplace injury cases, collaborate with HR on integrating wellness initiatives, contribute to wellness strategy development, conduct workforce health assessments, and engage with external vendors to enhance wellness programs.
About you
You are a go-getter who can be agile in your day-to-day work, in setting yourself up for success you ideally also have:
- A formally recognised qualification in the field of health and safety.
- Working experience in a health and safety position where you also used your knowledge of NZ health and safety legislation.
- Expertise in hazard, risk, and critical risk management, including process safety and contractor management.
- Skilled in H&S business management systems and incident investigations (ICAM or similar).
- Strong communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Proficient in safety principles, problem-solving, and delivery.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Customer-focused, collaborative, and team-oriented.
- Competent in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Experience in coaching, facilitation, and Permit to Work systems would be an advantage.
