Tūaropaki Trust (www.tuaropaki.com) is an Ahu Whenua Trust under the auspices of Te Ture Whenua Māori. There are more than 2,700 Owners, a mix of individuals, Whānau Trusts and Kaitiaki Trusts, all descended from the original Owners. The Trust is a kaitiaki for ancestral taonga and manages complex business interests in the food and energy sectors, with assets valued at approximately $1 billion.

Te tūranga | Your role
Reporting to the Chief Corporate, People and Risk Officer, the Health, Safety, Wellbeing and Environment (HSWE) Manager leads the development and implementation of Tūaropaki’s HSWE Strategy and Roadmap. This includes continuing to develop the critical risk management framework and embedding systems and processes that support a safe, sustainable, and values-aligned working environment.
This role supports HSWE processes across a diverse operational footprint, including the Trust’s head office, forestry blocks, farm and dairy operations, sustainability centre, and tenanted subsidiaries such as Tūaropaki Power Company and Halcyon Power.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing specialist support to ensure effective HSWE governance and leadership
- Leading the execution of the HSWE Strategy and Roadmap to foster maturity and continuous improvement
- Delivering robust reporting and insights to governance and executive leadership forums
- Coaching and mentoring leaders and kaimahi to build HSWE capability and awareness
- Building strong relationships and partnerships to foster a positive and proactive HSWE culture
- Ensure incident investigations are completed to ensure effective organisational learning and improvements
- Ensuring effective HSWE assurance across all operations.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- A recognised tertiary qualification in health and safety and HSW registration (minimum Certified) and environmental management exposure
- A strong stakeholder engagement focus — across operational, executive, governance, and external partners
- Substantial operational HSWE experience, with strong expertise in contemporary systems, risk management tools, and frameworks
- The ability to position HSWE within broader organisational and culture development.
