BestStart Parkside is looking for a passionate and experienced Qualified and Registered Teacher to step into the role of Head Teacher in our Preschool Room, working with our mixed-age group of 2–5 year olds.

As Head Teacher, you'll lead a close-knit and energetic team, creating a nurturing, safe, and stimulating environment that supports the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development of our tamariki. You'll also mentor your teaching team, build strong relationships with whānau, and ensure the room meets licensing and curriculum requirements.

About Our Centre:

We are a purpose-built centre, licensed for 50 children – with up to 16 in our nursery and 34 in our preschool. We're ideally located opposite Hagley Park, just minutes from Christchurch city centre, with staff parking available. Our philosophy embraces a play-based curriculum, guided by Te Whāriki, and we are committed to providing culturally responsive, engaging learning experiences.

About the Role:

  • Permanent, full-time (40 hours per week, Monday to Friday)
  • Lead the Preschool Room (ages 2–5) 
  • Inspire and support a team of passionate Kaiako 
  • Support planning, assessment, and curriculum delivery 
  • Build relationships with whānau and uphold compliance standards

What We’re Looking For:

  • A natural leader with strong communication skills
  • BEd/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE) and a current Teaching Certificate
  • Deep understanding of Te Whāriki, ECE regulations, and compliance
  • Confidence in programme planning, pedagogy, and reflective teaching
  • Commitment to delivering high-quality education and care
