BestStart Ferry Road is looking for a passionate, qualified, and registered teacher to step into the role of Head Teacher in our Ōtākaro room, covering a parental leave from mid-June through to January. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced teacher to lead a dynamic team and help shape high-quality learning experiences for our over-twos (ages 2 – 3.5 years).

About the Ōtākaro Room:

The Ōtākaro room is an engaging, energetic space designed to encourage growing independence as tamariki begin to explore and make decisions for themselves.

  • The learning environment is child-led and inspired by the children's current interests to foster natural curiosity
  • A spacious, nature-rich outdoor area and a challenging playground promote exploration and discovery
  • Close collaboration with the adjacent older children’s room promotes tuakana-teina relationships and peer learning

About Our Centre:

BestStart Ferry Road is a multicultural centre with a strong focus on sustainability, belonging, and celebrating diversity. Our team of 14 passionate kaiako brings together a wide range of experiences and backgrounds in early childhood education. As a Head Teacher, you’ll play a key role in leading learning, fostering positive relationships with whānau, and ensuring tamariki are supported in their developmental journey.

What We’re Looking For:

We're seeking a confident and capable leader who can support a strong team culture while delivering engaging and high-quality early learning experiences.

You’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor of Education/Diploma of Teaching Level 7 (ECE or Primary) and full NZ Teacher Certification
  • Proven leadership experience and the ability to guide and inspire others
  • A strong understanding of programme planning, Te Whāriki, and early childhood pedagogy
  • Commitment to regulatory compliance and health and safety
  • A collaborative, reflective, and growth-minded teaching philosophy
