Haeata Team Leader

About the role

Haeata sits as the heart of HomeGround and provides daily nutritious meals in a safe and welcoming environment. Haeata is a space for whānau to re-build and maintain networks and access support to sustain wellbeing. During mealtimes, dedicated, trained staff are engaging with every individual and providing practical pathways out of homelessness and assistance with everyday problems. 

The Team Leader Haeata will ensure the service is focused on being a Te Ao Māori based service, ensuring te ao Māori principles are applied to all staff interactions with whānau, by making them feel welcomed, comfortable and appropriately supported when accessing Mission Services. 


  • Support the team, lead and develop Haeata services.
  • Provide support to employ and train all staff, with specific emphasis on ‘Trauma Informed Care’ and Health and Safety protocols and te ao Māori concepts of practice. 
  • Manage the successful delivery of the Street Guardian programme, meeting contractual obligations including reporting requirements.
  • Facilitate Individual one to one performance and development plans for each team member are created quarterly, and regular one-to-one meetings occur. 
  • Oversee roster to ensure all shifts are adequately covered

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualification in hospitality, social services or a related field. 
  • Minimum ten years’ experience in leading and/or working in a client facing service. 
  • In-depth and demonstrated understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
  • A broad understanding of the homeless sector in Auckland and the complex issues that lead people into homelessness.
  •  Excellent team building, collaboration and partnering skills, with aptitude for getting things done through both formal and informal channels.
