Group Health & Safety Manager - Auckland or Christchurch

We are now looking for an experienced Group Health & Safety Manager to lead our nationwide health and safety function and drive continuous improvement across a dynamic environment. This role can be based in either Christchurch or Auckland, with regular national travel.

About the role:

This is a hands-on leadership position where your influence will be felt from boardroom to boots-on-the-ground. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll take ownership of our Group H&S strategy embedding a strong safety culture, building health and safety capability across all levels of the organisation, enabling our team to lead health and safety in their areas,  overseeing compliance, managing our H&S system and providing best-practice guidance across multiple sites.

  • Develop, execute and continuously improve our group-wide H&S strategy and frameworks
  • Monitor compliance with HSWA, EPA and other relevant regulations 
  • Lead and mentor a team of regional H&S advisors
  • Provide expert, trusted advice and guidance to staff and leadership on H&S matters
  • Lead investigations into critical incidents using methodology like ICAM and ensure effective root-cause identification
  • Conduct risk assessments and manage business-wide risk 
  • Monitor, analyse, and report on safety performance metrics to inform strategic decisions
  • Design and deliver training, SOPs, policies and reports
  • Maintain and enhance our health and safety management system
  • Drive business-wide safety culture transformation, embedding ownership and accountability at all levels

About you:

  • NEBOSH, Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, or equivalent preferred
  • Proven experience in a senior health and safety role in high-risk industries (waste, logistics, manufacturing, construction, or similar), ideally working across multiple sites
  • Strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, risk management, legislative compliance and best practice
  • Demonstrated experience in risk management and H&S frameworks
  • Confident communicator with experience influencing senior leaders through to frontline teams
  • Proactive, self-managing, and solutions-focused approach
  • Comfortable with H&S systems, IT savvy and data-driven reporting
