The Role
Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, the Group Financial Accountant plays a key role in strengthening Napier Port’s financial performance through high‑quality reporting, analysis, compliance, and continuous improvement.
This wide‑ranging role gives you exposure across the full finance function, month‑end reporting, financial and statutory compliance, treasury support, tax, planning and analysis, and contributing to the development of financial systems and controls.
You’ll work closely with the finance leadership team, business managers and external auditors to deliver accurate, timely and insightful financial information that supports sound decision‑making in a complex, NZX‑listed environment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Contributing to month‑end processes, including preparation of balance sheet reconciliations, management reporting, analysis and providing essential business partnering.
- Assisting with the preparation of external financial reporting in accordance with NZ IFRS and NZX listing requirements
- Working with external auditors to ensure clean and timely audit sign-off
- Assisting in the preparation of tax provisions, deferred tax calculations, and preparation of GST/FBT compliance.
- Supporting treasury management, including daily cashflow monitoring, debt facility maintenance, and maintenance of hedging relationships.
- Supporting fixed asset processes, capital project reporting, and continuous improvement of financial systems and controls.
- Contributing to financial planning and analysis, including lease management, forecasting, scenario modelling and project support.
- Coaching and developing others within the finance team and providing cover for the Financial Reporting Manager as needed.
- Actively contributing to a zero‑harm workplace and promoting Napier Port’s strong safety culture.
What You’ll Bring
- 5+ years’ accounting experience in a CA environment or equivalent corporate role.
- CA membership of CAANZ (or international equivalent).
- Strong understanding of finance operations, systems, methodologies and reporting tools.
- Intermediate Excel skills and experience with financial reporting systems.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical capability, and a proactive problem‑solving approach.
- Strong planning, organisation, and communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships across the business.
