Mō te tūranga: About the role  This is an opportunity for you to be part of a unique and special environment. 

The Grounds Keeper role works closely with the Manager and Grounds team to keep the general appearance of the Zoo looking it’s best throughout the day.  There is a little bit of everything to do from collecting recycling and animal waste; leaf blowing and clearing paths; collecting browse and bamboo for animal diets, and pretty much anything else that needs doing to keep the Zoo in tip-top shape for our visitors.  

This is a physical, all-weather role working five set days: Tuesday to Saturday from 7:30am to 4:00pm each day. 

He kōrero mōu: About you

  • Ability to do manual labour 
  • A good level of fitness (we are on a hill and there is lots of walking)
  • Willing and able to work outside in all weather conditions 
  • Love to start early in the morning
  • Current full driver’s licence and the ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle 
  • Able to be a team player, take responsibility for your work, and follow instructions 
  • Willing to learn 
  • Comfortable communicating with others – there may be times our visitors and/or other staff need to talk and hear from you
  • Level-headed and take health and safety seriously
  • Good knowledge of the use and care of small machinery, vehicles and tools (is useful not essential)
