We’re on the lookout for NZ-qualified Grade 3 Raft Guides to join us for the upcoming rafting season on the beautiful and technically challenging Tongariro River, based in Tūrangi.

About the Role

This role can start as early as September and runs through to the end of April, offering a mix of exciting opportunities:

Guiding Grade 3 Whitewater trips Grade 2 Family Adventures

Rowing oar boats for fishing clients Potential to assist in mountain bike guiding Contributing to conservation efforts for the endangered native Whio (Blue Duck)

Trips range from 2 hours to full-day missions – so variety is guaranteed!

You’ll work a 6-day-on, 2-day-off rotating roster, including weekends and public holidays. We offer staff accommodation, a supportive team culture, and an incredible lifestyle here in Tūrangi at the southern end of Lake Taupō. Minimum 30 hours a week $30 per hour.

Job description

To guide customers safely down the river.

EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY:

Shall hold a current first aid and CPR certificate

OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:

To load trailer with appropriate equipment for the trip.

To provide customers with safety briefing / training.

To look after customers on and off river (own or other boat loads as necessary).

Washing, cleaning and storage of equipment in and around base or elsewhere if required

To inspect rafts before and after trips for wear or damage, report it to Trip Leader.

To communicate to Management any gear needing repair.

Cleaning / tidying of base.

Reporting of incidents / accidents to Trip Leader and entering details into people safe

To assist and / or coordinate emergency procedures.

To take part in safety culture discussions instigated by trip leader,

identifying hazards and ways of avoiding mishaps.

Ownership and maintenance of approved first aid kit, and other river equipment required by the manager.

CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS

Be pleasant, polite and engaging at all times.

Assist all customers with any queries or concerns

No use of inappropriate language or gestures around or towards customers Be helpful and courteous towards all people

Complete TRR customer service training

WORK CONDITIONS/ DEGREE OF EFFORT REQUIRED:

Daylight hours - Due to the nature of our work, river environment, all weather conditions, river levels and hours are all varied.

What You Need to Bring

 NZ Grade 3 Raft Guide Award (or higher) Minimum 3 years of commercial rafting experience Current First Aid Certificate Willingness to take a pre-employment drug test Positive attitude and adaptability – no two days are the same
