As Niagara Sawmilling celebrates 90 years of operation, we remain a trusted name in New Zealand’s timber industry, built on a foundation of innovation, craftsmanship, and a people-first approach. We’re proud to offer meaningful opportunities for those who want to be part of a team that values integrity, ownership, and doing things right.
We are seeking a motivated individual to join our Kennington-based Dry Mill team as a Generalist Operator and Forklift Driver. This hands-on role provides broad experience across timber processing, including operating grading machines, wrapping and labelling packets and assisting with various tasks in our busy dry mill. The role includes relief forklift driving to provide cover during periods of leave and operational demand, supporting the wider team as required.
This role is more than just a job—it’s a gateway to exciting career opportunities across Niagara. By gaining experience across multiple areas of Dry Mill processing, including our 24/7 kiln operations, you will build the skills, knowledge, and connections that can lead to growth into more specialist positions. Niagara invests in our people, and this position is your first step into a long-term, rewarding career in a company that values talent, effort, and ambition.
The position is Monday to Friday, 6:00am – 2:30pm, with overtime typically worked Monday to Thursday until 4:00pm. Overtime is paid at an increased rate, and a weekly minimum guarantee of 40 hours provides stability and certainty of income.
You will also provide cover for our 24/7 kiln operations, assisting with inventory management, moisture control, and general timber handling. Full onsite training is provided, including forklift operation and licensing where required, with clear opportunities for growth and advancement within Niagara.
You will work alongside a supportive and skilled team, under strong, experienced management that values safety, efficiency, and personal growth.
We are looking for someone with good physical fitness and confidence in manual handling, who brings a positive attitude and strong work ethic to their role. You’ll have sound communication skills, a willingness to learn, and ideally some experience working with technology or operating machinery. A genuine commitment to safety, teamwork, and doing the job well is essential, along with a proven work history supported by recent references.
At Niagara, you will enjoy a stable, team-focused workplace where your contributions are valued, with competitive earning potential and full training to develop your skills. We welcome candidates with a consistent work history, mechanical aptitude, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, strong communication skills, and the physical ability to manage this hands-on role.
