Are you a strategic leader with a passion for making a difference? Presbyterian Support Southland (PSS) is seeking a visionary General Manager – Social Services to lead our dynamic Social Services Group. Based in Invercargill, this pivotal role is responsible for  the strategic leadership and operational management of our Social Services activities, including our well established and respected Family Works directorate.  The role will oversee our services, ensuring they are efficient, integrated, and deliver quality outcomes for our clients. 

With the current leader retiring after more than 20 years in the role, this is a rare and exciting opportunity to step into a key leadership role that doesn’t come around often. This role carries a legacy of dedication, impact, and deep connection to our organisation and community, and we’re looking for someone ready to build on that foundation and lead us into the future.

As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll provide strategic oversight, foster collaboration, and champion a high-performance culture. You will work closely with the CEO and external stakeholders to optimise funding opportunities, advocate for community needs, and lead the delivery of services that provide a tangible and positive impact in lives of many. 

Ngā kawenga | Key responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategic and operational performance of the Social Services Group, ensuring high-quality, integrated service delivery and practice excellence.
  • Foster a high-performance culture and empower managers to lead effective, client-focused teams.
  • Build strong relationships with funders, government agencies, and sector partners.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for service development and innovation aligned with community needs and PSS's vision and mission.
  • Oversee budget planning and financial performance to achieve revenue and targets.
  • Champion PSS’s values and strategic objectives.

Ngā pūkenga | What you will need to be successful:

  • A tertiary qualification in social services, health, or a related field (desirable) along with evidence of ongoing professional development.
  • Proven experience leading teams within the social services sector, with strong strategic and operational leadership capabilities. 
  • Demonstrated success in a senior management role, with sound business acumen and change leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with Boards, senior leaders, employees, and external partners.
  • Strong understanding of government funding structures and compliance requirements
  • Professional, ethical, and confidential approach, with a continuous improvement mindset
