The Organisation

Dunedin Airport based in Momona is an iconic landmark serving the city of Dunedin and the Otago & Southland regions. The airport catered for over 1 million passengers per year pre covid and we are already up to nearly 90% of previous passenger numbers travelling through Dunedin Airport.

It is a public company owned equally by Dunedin City Holdings Ltd (DCHL) and the New Zealand Government. 

Supported by a dedicated team, the airport proudly shares the lower south with the world, connecting people, business and communities to the taoka of the region. 

Role

This is a key role and part of the executive leadership team, you will report into the CEO and be responsible for the sustainability, resource management and planning matters for the organisation as it navigates towards its 2050 vision of becoming a sustainable, thriving gateway to the lower south. 

This role will provide expertise relative to sustainability and resource planning to support the airports Masterplan process providing technical advice and analysis in the airport’s long-term strategic plans for economic, social, and environmental goals. 

You will be responsible for developing and championing the airports long term sustainability plan, lead all regional and district planning, and provide the necessary technical inputs on the airports broader land use planning matters. This will be a critical role in the development and execution of the airport’s land use strategy.

Your background in resource management, consenting, land use planning and sustainability will enable you to effectively manage the needs of the airport. This includes any complexities across the airport site and its diverse surrounding business interests including dairy farms and a property portfolio within the Momona village.

You will report to and work closely with the other exec team members and CEO to develop, execute and deliver the wider strategic plan, so we are looking for someone who is a strategic thinker, always considering the wider perspective, yet outcome focused and commercially astute.

Working closely with the operations team, you will ensure all activities conducted comply with legislative requirements and environmental policies and procedures. Additionally, you will support them to be aware of upcoming changes in a way that enables them to respond appropriately.

Competent at preparing and managing budgets, you will oversee expenses effectively to optimise return on investment.

Requirements

The successful applicant will have extensive experience as a senior manager within the sustainability and resource management technical fields and be able to evidence successful achievement of previous company objectives and deliverables across these functions.

We are looking for someone with a strong focus on deliverables, and this person’s experience will be extensive. 

Ideally this person will have an aviation background, but we welcome applications from outside the airport and aviation industry so long as the transferable skills are evident and demonstratable. We will ensure each application is given full consideration. 

Skills & Experience

Skills/Qualifications required for this role:

· Tertiary qualification (Degree or Masters preferred) in Environmental Science/Law/Engineering/Energy/Management, Sustainability, Planning or similar

· Proven track record in successfully leading sustainability initiatives and managing complex environmental challenges

· A minimum of 8 years’ relevant experience in a similar role

· Good knowledge of, and ability to practically apply, the Resource Management Act.

· Ability to process complex technical information, draw conclusions and communicate effectively to stakeholders.
