Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre

Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre is a modern, purpose-built facility designed for the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal disorders. The Centre is located in the heart of the Kensington medical precinct and contains consulting rooms, and a day stay operating theatre.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

As General Manager, you will provide visible, values-led leadership that brings to life the mission and vision of Southern Cross Northland Surgical Centre. You will lead a high-performing surgical hospital that is recognised locally for quality, efficiency and exceptional patient care, while working closely with the wider Southern Cross Healthcare network to leverage expertise, support services and shared capability. You will ensure the delivery of outstanding clinical outcomes, meet the needs of both specialists and patients, and champion robust safety, quality and risk management systems that maintain compliance with the Health and Disability Sector Standards and strengthen a culture of continuous improvement.

You will inspire and develop a capable, engaged team by setting clear direction, coaching leaders and fostering an environment built on trust, collaboration and accountability. Partnering closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and clinical teams, you will enhance service delivery, identify opportunities for improvement and ensure the hospital operates efficiently and sustainably. With full operational and financial accountability, you will manage performance, optimise revenue, control costs and oversee capital investment, facilities and equipment planning to ensure the hospital continues to meet the needs of a growing community.

A key focus of the role will be building and maintaining strong relationships across the region. You will work alongside specialists, funders and community stakeholders to grow services, develop strategic partnerships and identify opportunities to expand access to surgical care in Northland. In partnership with the Board, you will shape and deliver the hospital’s strategic plan, ensuring the organisation continues to evolve, innovate and remain a trusted provider of high-quality healthcare for the people of Te Tai Tokerau. We are entering an exciting phase of growth and expansion, making this the perfect time to join the hospital and truly make your mark — shaping services, influencing strategy and leaving a lasting impact on healthcare delivery in the region. This is a full-time permanent role based in Whangarei.
