Wight Aluminium prides itself on being New Zealand owned and is one of the top aluminium joinery fabricators in the North Island. Wight Aluminium has been a trusted partner to the commercial construction industry for 45 years. Due to the continued success of our three offices and two manufacturing facilities in the North Island, we are now looking for a General Manager based in Wellington to run our lower North Island operations.

This is a newly created role that requires a motivated, strategic thinker, with previous experience in a Senior Management position. You will be part of our Senior Leadership team and will lead our lower North Island operations to ensure projects are delivered within program and budget, as well as oversee the efficient running of our Whanganui based manufacturing plant.

You will be responsible for:

  • Business development with a focus on growing our business in both commercial and high-end residential projects in the lower North Island 
  • Leading and managing the delivery of multiple projects, to ensure there is co-ordination between sales, manufacturing, delivery and installation of aluminium joinery 
  • Ensuring predetermined timelines and budgets are met in order to deliver an exceptional customer experience
  • Leadership and management of the Whanganui manufacturing facility
  • Leadership and management of staff based in the lower North Island
  • Effective relationship management with key stakeholders (suppliers and clients)

To be successful in this role you will need: 

  • Previous experience in a Senior Management position, preferably in the manufacturing and/or construction industry  
  • Preferably a relevant tertiary or trade qualification in the relevant discipline areas 
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to motivate and manage teams to deliver results under pressure
  • The ability to think strategically and creatively problem solve 
  • Financial Management skills including a thorough understanding of the key financial drivers that determines project profitability 
  • The ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and industry groups 

Experience working in aluminium joinery, manufacturing or construction environments would be an advantage. We will consider candidates who may not meet all the above requirements, but whose experience demonstrates the commitment and energy to excel in this role.
