Reporting to the CEO, this role will:

  • Foster an inclusive, continuous improvement culture
  • Ensure that all land based, and marine operations support the long-term strategic plan
  • Develop and deliver operating model improvements alongside excellence in operational planning 
  • Provide coaching and development for teams that build individual and organisational capacity 
  • Act as a key liaison point between stakeholders, including our operational teams, customers, Harbour Master, and industry. 
  • Play an integral part in the delivery of the organisations Health, Safety and Environment Management System, including Controlling Operations, Hazard, and Risk Management along with Emergency and Crisis Management. 

This high impact leadership role requires a commercially astute leader who will become part of the senior executive team and will interact regularly with our board. You will have the unique opportunity to shape an exciting future for Port Taranaki, to make trade easy for our customers and enable our region to prosper.

Your previous experience will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience in working across diverse teams
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment, balancing day to day operational demands with longer term planning and project delivery
  • Proven commercial acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and problem-solving abilities 
  • Advanced software skills (specifically Windows Suite)
  • Knowledge of Port operations and the maritime industry, alongside a tertiary qualification in either operations or logistics would be an advantage

About Port Taranaki

Port Taranaki is centrally located on the west coast of the North Island and is the only deep-water seaport on New Zealand's western seaboard. Port Taranaki offers nine fully serviced berths for a wide variety of cargoes and vessels. The Port handles cargo principally related to  the farming, engineering and petrochemical industries. Additionally, the port is a servicing base for sea transport and related industries and is a provider of related maritime, support and heavy lift services to the offshore and onshore oil exploration industries
