Carefirst Trust Limited is excited to offer an emerging leader the opportunity to join our established and highly experienced board as a Future Director.

Founded in 2000 by four local GPs, Carefirst has grown into a connected group of clinics across the New Plymouth region, employing more than 100 dedicated staff. Our services include:

  • Four GP practices
  • Skin Clinic Taranaki
  • An  Urgent Care clinic
  • Advanced Radiology
  • Allied health services, collocated at our Carefirst health centres
  • An aged care service alongside local rest home facilities
  • Carefirst Property Holding Company Ltd

Our board comprises five experienced directors: three general practitioners, a nurse practitioner—all shareholders—and an independent Chair. The board provides oversight across all subsidiary companies, with consistent leadership across each, except for the property-owning entity where additional directors may be appointed. As our Future Director, you’ll have the opportunity to participate fully in this governance environment.

After a significant period of growth and successfully navigating workforce challenges, Carefirst now provides care for more than one-third of the New Plymouth community. We’re looking for a Future Director who shares our commitment to high-quality, people-centred healthcare.

We are seeking someone who might fill some or all these attributes:

  • Is a natural leader who can balance strong governance practice with values-driven, innovative thinking.
  • Ideally has experience balancing stakeholder impact and commercial priorities within a “for-purpose” organisation.
  • Understands the drivers of health and wellbeing (a clinical background is not required).
  • Can confidently support and constructively challenge practitioner-directors in governance roles.
  • Experience with strategic data analytics and technologies to drive a future focussed organisation.
  • Empathy and connection with Te ao Māori, possibly with whakapapa to Taranaki.

While preference will be given to candidates based in Taranaki, we warmly welcome applicants from neighbouring regions who can bring fresh perspectives.

Board Meetings

  • The Board meets six times a year at one of our New Plymouth GP clinics. In-person attendance is preferred.
  • You can expect to spend up to one day per meeting cycle reviewing board papers and preparing.
  • Subcommittees include:
    • Business Development
    • Audit and Risk
    • Clinical Governance

The Future Director may be invited to join one of these committees, either in person or remotely, depending on availability.

Remuneration
This is a paid Future Director position.

Term and Commencement
