Antarctica New Zealand is entering an exciting new chapter. As guardians of New Zealand’s activities in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean, we are strengthening how we protect, understand and champion one of the world’s most vital regions — and we are now establishing a dedicated philanthropic fundraising function to support this work.

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Fundraising Manager to design, establish and lead a greenfields fundraising function supporting the New Zealand Antarctic and Southern Ocean Trust.

Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, and working closely with the Board and Trustees, this role sits at the heart of the organisation at a defining moment in its story.

The Opportunity

This newly created role offers a unique chance to:

  • Build and embed a fundraising function from scratch within a respected Crown entity
  • Develop and deliver a credible, values-aligned fundraising strategy
  • Establish high‑value relationships with donors, foundations and partners
  • Work closely with the Chief Executive, senior leaders, the Board and Trustees
  • Lay foundations that will endure well beyond the initial 12‑month term

You’ll bring focus, momentum and structure to an area of significant potential — balancing pace with care, and ambition with integrity.

Mō te mahi | About the role - What you’ll be doing 

As Fundraising Manager, you will:

  • Design and implement a targeted fundraising strategy aligned to Antarctica New Zealand’s purpose, values and      reputation
  • Identify and steward priority donor relationships, creating a strong and sustainable pipeline
  • Partner with Antarctica NZ leaders to unlock high‑value engagement opportunities
  • Establish fit‑for‑purpose systems, reporting and donor stewardship practices
  • Provide clear, meaningful reporting to the Chief Executive, Board and Trustees
  • Build the profile and credibility of the Trust through thoughtful engagement and storytelling

This is a hands‑on, influential role that combines strategic thinking with relationship leadership.

You will be an experienced fundraising professional who brings:

  • A strong track record in philanthropy, fundraising or a related field
  • Experience designing and delivering strategic fundraising initiatives
  • Exceptional relationship‑building and stakeholder management skills
  • Confidence operating at executive and Board level
  • High professional integrity and sound judgement
  • Alignment with our commitment to kaitiakitanga, Tikanga Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
