Function Supervisor - The Langlands Hotel – Invercargill

The Langlands Hotel is a premium 4.5-star, Qualmark Gold rated, 78-room hotel located in the heart of Invercargill. With luxurious accommodation and five contemporary food and beverage offerings, The Langlands is a standout hospitality venue in the South.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Function Supervisor to join our Conference and Events team. This is a hands-on leadership role, pivotal to ensuring all functions and events are delivered to the highest standard while consistently exceeding client expectations.

Reporting to senior management, the Function Supervisor will lead by example on the floor, overseeing day-to-day function operations, supervising staff, and ensuring seamless coordination between front and back of house. This role operates on a 7-day roster, with flexibility required to meet business demands.

About the role

As Function Supervisor, you will be responsible for:

• Supervising the setup, delivery, and pack-down of all functions and events to ensure accuracy, presentation, and quality standards are met
   
• Ensuring all function rooms, equipment, and back-of-house areas are clean, organised, and fully operational
   
• Leading, coaching, and supporting the functions team to deliver exceptional service at all times
   
• Acting as a key point of contact for clients during events, ensuring a professional, polished, and welcoming experience
   
• Promoting company values, maintaining professional presentation standards, and ensuring the team reflects these expectations
   
• Championing health, safety, and wellbeing in line with ILT policies and relevant legislation, including the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012
   
• Supporting departmental revenue and service targets and ensuring team awareness and contribution to these goals
   
• Managing function inventory and ensuring all supplies and resources are prepared and available
   
• Participating in post-event reviews to identify opportunities for continuous improvement
   
• Maintaining strong working relationships with clients and internal departments
   

In the absence of the Function Coordinator, the Function Supervisor will also assist with client liaison, event administration, pre- and post-event communication, revenue targets, and supporting marketing initiatives to encourage repeat business.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Proven supervisory or team leadership experience in hospitality, functions, or events
   
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, guide, and support a team in a fast-paced environment
   
• A high level of customer service and professionalism
   
• Practical knowledge of function setups, event operations, and equipment use
   
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and interpersonal
   
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
   
• The ability to remain calm under pressure and respond proactively to challenges
   
• A flexible, hands-on approach and availability to work evenings, weekends, and public holidays
   
• A commitment to health and safety best practice
