Transportation and Logistics

Port Otago’s business is made up of a regional container terminal, multiple Supply Chain facilities, bulk port activities, cruise and property investment/development. We service South Canterbury, Otago, and Southland, working with customers to streamline their supply chains. Our culture is hands-on, safety focused and encourages continuous improvement.

Here at Port Otago, there is always something on the go and as a business we are collaborative, fast-paced and always open.

We are seeking motivated and capable people to join our Supply Chain team as Forklift Operators on a permanent full-time basis. While the port industry has traditionally attracted men, times are changing. We strongly encourage people of all backgrounds to apply as we continue to strengthen and diversify our team.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role behind the wheel, and no two days look the same. You’ll handle everything from dairy and timber products to fish. Although you will mainly be based at our warehouse in Port Chalmers, you may be required to work across our other warehouses such as Sawyers Bay and Dunedin Coldstores from time to time.

Day to day you will:

• Operate forklifts across multiple Supply Chain Warehouses, making sure product is handled safely and efficiently.

• Load and unload rail wagons and trucks, and pack and unpack shipping containers, so customers get their freight on time.

• Receipt, dispatch, and manage accurately using our Warehouse Management Systems.

You will join our team on a permanent, full-time basis, which will include:

· Guaranteed 40 hours per week.

· Working a mix of 1st shift (0700 – 1500) or 2nd shift (1500 – 2300). Shift allocations will be scheduled according to operational requirements and may vary from week to week. Flexibility is essential.

· An hourly allowance when working 2nd shift.

· Overtime available when shipping and supply chain activity ramps up – including some weekend work, paid at time and a half over 40 hours.

What We’re Looking For

We’re not just looking for someone who can operate a forklift. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, prioritises safety and contributes to an environment where everyone feels valued and supported. You’ll:

· Bring a positive, can-do attitude.

· Enjoy being part of a team and take real pride in shared success.

· Are reliable, adaptable and keep a level head when things get busy.

· Treat people with respect and look for solutions, not just problems.

Experienced operator? Your experience will help you hit the ground running, and if you're keen to grow, there are real opportunities to progress your career with us.
