Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi | About the Role

We are seeking expressions of interest for an enthusiastic and learner-focused English Language Tutor (NZCEL) to join EIT in Hawke's Bay on a part-time 0.6 FTE fixed-term basis from 20 July 2026 to 4 December 2026.

The English Language Tutor (NZCEL) is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning within the New Zealand Certificate in English Language (NZCEL) programmes from Foundation to Level 5. The role focuses on developing learners' English language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing while supporting student engagement, achievement, and progression.

Working closely with the Programme Coordinator, English Language Centre staff, and wider academic teams, you will contribute to excellent learner outcomes through engaging teaching, assessment, learner support, and continuous programme improvement. You will play a key role in creating an inclusive and culturally responsive learning environment that promotes student success and wellbeing.

The appointing salary for this role will be between $74,126 and $76,722 per annum, dependent on skills and experience.

The English Language Tutor (NZCEL) is based within the School, Business, Tourism, Hospitality and English Language, reporting to the Assistant Head of School and will be responsible for:

  • Delivering engaging NZCEL programmes from Foundation to Level 5 using learner-centred teaching approaches.
  • Planning, preparing, and developing teaching and learning resources to support student achievement.
  • Conducting assessments, providing constructive feedback, and monitoring learner progress.
  • Providing academic guidance and pastoral support to a diverse student cohort.
  • Contributing to assessment moderation, curriculum development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

He kōrero mōu | About You

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) and a tertiary qualification in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching adult English language learners, ideally within NZCEL or similar English language programmes.
  • Strong knowledge of English language teaching methodologies, assessment practices, and learner-centred education.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, and relationship-building skills.
  • A commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, cultural responsiveness, learner wellbeing, and educational excellence.
