Financial Accountant – 12 Month Fixed term Contract 

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

This is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity for a commercially minded accountant looking to further develop their financial reporting, compliance, and business partnering experience within one of New Zealand's largest healthcare organisations. You'll gain exposure to a complex, multi-site environment while contributing to key finance activities that support informed decision-making across the business.

As a Financial Accountant, you'll play a key role in supporting the financial integrity of Southern Cross Healthcare through accurate reporting, robust financial controls, and insightful analysis. Working as part of the Finance team, you'll contribute to month-end reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed asset accounting, statutory reporting, and continuous process improvement initiatives that support informed decision-making across the organisation.

This role offers exposure to a complex, multi-site business environment and provides an excellent platform for someone working towards their CA qualification, or looking to broaden their experience across financial accounting, compliance, and operational finance.

 This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months to cover parental leave.  

Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience

  • Proven experience as a Financial Accountant within a medium to large organisation
  •  CAANZ or equivalent qualification. 
  • Significant experience preparing month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Experience supporting statutory reporting, annual financial statements, and tax compliance
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret financial data
  • Experience using enterprise ERP systems such as TechnologyOne, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or JDE
  • Strong understanding of financial controls, compliance, and risk management
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships across Finance and the wider business
