 Family Start Whānau Worker
(Permanent, Full Time)

This role is located in our Putaruru office and supports whanau across the South Waikato.

Te tūranga | The role 

An exciting opportunity has arisen within our Family Start team for a caring and compassionate individual who is passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of others. 

Family Start is an integrated service alongside the Well Child Tamariki Ora team, focused on supporting tamariki to thrive through strengthened growth, health, learning, relationships, family circumstances, environment, and safety. 

As a home-based service, Family Start works with whānau throughout their parenting journey, providing support to those experiencing trauma, challenges, or circumstances that place the wellbeing of their tamariki at risk. 

Local community knowledge across our Raukawa rohe, including Tokoroa, Putāruru, Tīrau, Matamata, Cambridge, Mangakino, Te Awamutu, and surrounding areas and ability to support relationships with providers is key. 

Strong engagement skills, and the ability to foster trusting relationships, along with the capacity to connect with people from diverse backgrounds using a positive, strengths-based approach are essential in this role.

About You:

  • Experienced in a relevant role working with tamariki and whānau focusing whānau development
  • Hold a Level 7 qualification (social work, nursing, early childhood education, counselling)
  • A strong team player who works well in a friendly, supportive team environment and able to work independently, self-manage and take initiative
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills, and the ability to maintain confidentiality
  • An understanding of the working environment when undertaking home visits with vulnerable tamariki and whānau
  • A commitment to work in culturally appropriate ways that reflect and build on the strengths of individuals, whānau, and hapū  
  • An understanding of Te Ao Māori and commitment to kaupapa Māori values.
