Hospitality & Leisure

The Christchurch Casino is a key player in providing premier gaming entertainment and hospitality within the Christchurch CBD. We are also very much part of the broader community through our community engagement and the Christchurch Casinos Charitable Community Trust. Reporting to the GM Security & Property, this is an opportunity to take ownership of a diverse property and asset portfolio and contribute to the ongoing reliability, safety and improvement of a complex operational environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role in a busy, customer-facing environment where good maintenance matters. You'll lead a skilled in-house team, manage specialist contractors and ensure planned and reactive maintenance, building compliance and asset improvement activities are delivered safely and effectively.

While the role is primarily worked Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 5.00pm, you'll also provide reasonable after-hours support to ensure urgent maintenance incidents, critical asset failures and planned shutdowns are effectively managed, minimising operational disruption and safety risks.

What you’ll be responsible for:

  • Lead and develop our Electrician, Joiner-Carpenter and Maintenance Assistant.
  • Drive effective planned and preventative maintenance across building services and plant.
  • Coordinate the response to faults and critical asset issues, minimising disruption to Casino operations.
  • Manage specialist contractors and suppliers, with a strong focus on safety, quality, cost and delivery.
  • Support Building Warrant of Fitness and statutory maintenance requirements, working with IQPs and specialist providers.
  • Assess asset condition and reliability and make practical recommendations on repair, replacement and lifecycle investment.
  • Contribute to refurbishments, capital works and property projects, ensuring new assets are practical to maintain and successfully integrated into operations.
  • Manage maintenance expenditure, purchasing and service contracts within agreed delegations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, sustainability and whole-of-life asset performance.

About you:

You’ll be a practical and credible maintenance leader who can combine technical understanding with strong people and commercial judgement.

You’ll bring:

  • Solid experience in facilities, building services, industrial maintenance or a comparable asset environment.
  • Experience leading employees and managing specialist contractors.
  • Strong knowledge of preventative and reactive maintenance and asset reliability.
  • The technical confidence to assess problems, question recommendations and make sound repair-versus-replace decisions.
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety and maintenance risk controls.
  • Experience managing budgets, suppliers, contracts and competing operational priorities.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving and communication skills.
  • The ability to work collaboratively across technical and non-technical teams.

A trade qualification would be useful but is not essential. What matters is that you have the practical technical knowledge and judgement to lead qualified tradespeople, manage specialist providers and make sound maintenance decisions.

Why this role?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a varied property and asset portfolio where your decisions have a direct impact on safety, reliability, customer experience and business continuity.

You’ll work across electrical, mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, building and specialist systems while helping shape preventative maintenance, asset renewal and future property improvements.

In addition, Christchurch Casino offers:

  • Central Christchurch location with onsite parking
  • Discounted food in the Casino bars and restaurants
  • Paid meal breaks
  • Fully subsidised medical Insurance after 6 months of employment
  • Active employee social club with regular events and draws
