About the role

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and leading a team of four, you will lead Napier Port’s financial accounting, management reporting, taxation and external financial reporting. You will safeguard the integrity of our financial information, maintain effective controls and processes, and provide timely, reliable insights within a NZX listed, regulated and safety-critical environment.

 Your key priorities will include:

• Leading accurate and timely statutory, NZX, shareholder, taxation, management and risk reporting in line with applicable requirements.
• Maintaining the integrity of the general ledger, month-end activities and core transactional finance processes.
• Leading technical accounting, including assessing emerging issues and preparing clear, well-supported accounting papers.
• Strengthening financial controls, policies, systems and processes to make reporting reliable, efficient and useful for decision-making.
• Partnering with the wider Finance team and business leaders to deliver management reporting, analysis, budgeting, forecasting and sound financial management.
• Overseeing treasury and working capital activities, debt facility compliance, capital expenditure processes, and joint venture and investment reporting.
• Managing corporate compliance and risk reporting.
• Building trusted relationships with auditors, tax advisers, bankers, shareholders and other stakeholders.
• Coaching and developing the Financial Reporting team, supporting engagement, succession and consistently high-quality delivery.
• Championing continuous improvement across financial systems, reporting processes and service delivery, while contributing to business projects and corporate transactions.
• Promoting and managing health and safety within the team so that safety is reflected in decisions, communication and everyday ways of working.

What you’ll bring

You will combine strong technical financial reporting capability with practical leadership and the ability to build trusted relationships across a complex organisation.

 To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• Chartered Accountant membership with CA ANZ, or an international equivalent.
• Advanced knowledge of corporate financial reporting, including NZ IFRS, public company reporting, governance and regulatory requirements.
• Strong technical accounting capability and a sound working knowledge of taxation.
• Demonstrated financial management experience gained in an organisation of comparable scale and complexity.
• Experience leading, coaching and developing teams, together with the ability to build effective stakeholder relationships.
• Strong analytical, planning, organisational, communication and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
• Advanced capability with financial reporting systems and Microsoft Excel. 
• Experience improving financial reporting processes and systems.
• Audit experience with a major accountancy firm would be advantageous.
