We are currently seeking an Environmental Scientist - Water Allocation for a permanent, full-time role focused on the sustainable management of surface water. In this position, you will go beyond the usual state of the environment monitoring and reporting. You will also contribute to cutting-edge regional and national research programmes to inform decision-making and promote the health and wellbeing of the region’s natural environment.
Based in our Palmerston North office, the role will have you working alongside a team of scientists, hydrologists and data analysts to help develop, implement and lead a science programme that supports policy development, implementation and informs responses to environmental issues across this large and diverse region. Suitable candidates should hold a bachelor’s level qualification (post graduate desirable but not essential) in an appropriate natural science discipline (e.g. natural resource management, environmental science) or equivalent experience in a relevant natural science discipline. Candidates with a solid foundation in hydrology, ecology or environmental science are preferred. Previous working experience in freshwater science, water allocation or hydrology, and the Resource Management Act will be advantageous, as would skills and experience in project management, data analysis and reporting, and an ability to communicate scientific information in an engaging and informative way.
