The Compliance team play an important role in contributing to the safety of our community by ensuring food, alcohol and other businesses fulfill the legal requirements governing their standards of service. The Environmental Health Officer responsibilities includes responding to and investigating complaints, monitoring business premises and ensuring compliance with the laws and bylaws relating to the function of their business and Environmental Health.
The purpose of the Environmental Health Officer role is to promote and safeguard environmental health in the community by managing licensing requirements, facilitating and influencing proactive compliance, leading, educating and working with the public and industry locally, regionally and nationally to maintain compliance within the Horowhenua.

As the community is at the heart of this role, you'll play a pivotal role in upholding environmental standards, promoting sustainable practices, and making a positive impact on the world around us. To be successful in this role, a commitment to customer service, team work and continuous improvement is a must. You will have a tertiary qualification which meets the requirements of the Environmental Health Officers Regulations 1993 and have experience and knowledge in working under the food licensing framework. Educating the public about eco-friendly practices, pollution prevention, and health-promoting behaviors will be a key part of this role. You will also have great communication skill, both written and oral, and have sound judgement and decision making skills.
