Due to continued growth, CAL>Isuzu Engineering is looking for an experienced Engineering Leading Hand to join our busy truck body building and fabrication workshop in Hamilton.
Working closely with our Engineering Foreman and Group Engineering Manager, you'll play a key role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the workshop while leading by example on the tools. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll help coordinate workflow, support your teammates and ensure every project is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard.

About the Role
As our Engineering Leading Hand, you'll support the Engineering Foreman in ensuring the workshop operates safely, efficiently and delivers exceptional quality.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading by example and working alongside the team on the workshop floor.
- Assisting with coordinating daily workflow and allocating work across multiple projects.
- Supporting and mentoring apprentices and less experienced team members.
- Ensuring truck body building, fabrication and repair work meets company and NZTA quality standards.
- Monitoring productivity and helping keep projects on schedule.
- Maintaining a strong focus on health and safety.
- Identifying opportunities to improve workshop efficiency and processes.
- Working collaboratively with the Engineering Foreman and Group Engineering Manager to achieve operational goals.
About You
You're someone who enjoys taking ownership, helping others succeed and takes pride in producing quality workmanship.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A National Certificate in Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent).
- Strong experience as a Fitter Welder, Fabricator or Heavy Fabrication Tradesperson.
- Previous experience mentoring, supervising or leading others is desirable.
- Experience in truck body building, heavy fabrication or commercial vehicle engineering would be highly regarded.
- The ability to read and interpret engineering and CAD drawings.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- A proactive attitude with strong problem-solving abilities.
- A commitment to workplace safety and delivering high-quality work.
- A full Class 1 driver's licence (Class 2/HT licence would be advantageous but is not essential).
