ECE Head Teacher (BestStart Mt Eden)
About the Role:
BestStart Mt Eden is looking for a skilled and inspiring Head Teacher to lead our 2-5's Room. In this role, you’ll use your leadership and curriculum expertise to craft meaningful learning experiences and bring the local curriculum to life. You'll use the environment as the third teacher, create thoughtful curriculum plans, and support your team to thrive through strong communication, warmth, and a nurturing teaching style.
At BestStart Mt Eden, learning through nature is at the heart of what we do. Our ‘Meadow’ is our touch of nature in central Auckland—complete with a vegetable garden, mud pit, fruit trees, compost area, worm farm, and even a fire pit in winter. Here, tamariki can make mud pies, forage for bugs, help in the garden, and experience the true essence of outdoor learning. We teach our children to care for the earth, deepening their connection to Papatūānuku, our Māori earth mother.

Permanent | Full-time | 40 hours per week (Monday–Friday)
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience as a Head Teacher in an ECE setting
- BEd/Dip Teaching Level 7 (ECE) and full Teacher Certification
- In-depth knowledge of Te Whāriki and programme planning
- A strong understanding of ECE regulations and compliance
- Confident in pedagogical leadership and mentoring others
- A natural communicator who brings warmth, clarity, and positivity to their team
