A place where curiosity thrives, nature inspires, and every child’s journey is celebrated.

BestStart Waikanae is looking for a warm, energetic Caregiver to join our close-knit team. Our centre sits beside the beautiful Hemi Matenga track, giving our tamariki access to expansive outdoor spaces that spark exploration and wonder. Children climb trees, race bikes, and roam freely in our natural playground, supported by teachers who champion play, discovery, and growth.

We’re also lucky to back onto Waikanae School, giving us extra room to explore their playgrounds during school holidays, rolling down hills, inventing games, and creating memories. From regular bush walks to heartwarming visits with residents at the local Bupa rest home, our days are filled with meaningful experiences that help children learn, laugh, and connect with their community.

At BestStart Waikanae, we believe learning is a lifelong adventure. Our team is passionate about nurturing each child’s unique journey and providing rich, engaging opportunities that support development at their own pace.

  • $2000* for referring a qualified teacher
  • Discounted childcare
  • Subsidised health insurance*
  • Free annual flu vaccinations
  • Confidential EAP counselling
  • A wellbeing programme
  • Sick leave available from your first day
  • An extra week of leave after 10 years of service

About the Role

As a Caregiver, you’ll play a key role in supporting infants, toddlers, and preschoolers in a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment. Working alongside our qualified teachers, you’ll help deliver engaging, play-based experiences and support children’s daily routines and wellbeing.

You’ll build trusting relationships with tamariki and whānau, contribute to our collaborative team culture, and be an active part of centre life.

This is a permanent, full-time position (40 hours per week, Monday–Friday).

What your day will look like:

  • Providing exceptional care and education to our tamariki
  • Supporting and extending children’s learning through play
  • Participating across all classrooms and helping cover staff breaks
  • Contributing to smooth centre operations at every level

What We’re Looking For

You’ll bring a genuine passion for working with young children, especially infants and toddlers, and experience supporting children under five. While an ECE qualification isn’t required, you’ll need a natural affinity with tamariki, strong initiative, and the ability to take direction within a team committed to excellence.
