BestStart Parkside is looking for a caring, enthusiastic, and dedicated Caregiver to join our close-knit team on a fixed-term basis. If you have experience working with young children and a passion for supporting their learning and development, we'd love to hear from you.

About Us

Located on Hagley Avenue, directly opposite beautiful Hagley Park and just minutes from Christchurch Hospital, BestStart Parkside is a well-established centre catering for up to 50 children. Our warm, inclusive environment includes two learning spaces – a nursery and a preschool – and reflects the diverse cultures and communities we proudly serve.

Many of our whānau live locally or work nearby, particularly at Christchurch Hospital. We are supported by a stable, experienced team of qualified teachers and a dedicated centre cook, and we pride ourselves on our positive culture, strong relationships, and collaborative approach.

About the Role

This is a fixed-term position working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, covering parental leave from July 2026 to August 2027.

You will be primarily based in our preschool room, supporting children aged 2–5 years, while also being flexible to work across the wider centre when required.

As a valued member of our team, you will:

  • Provide high-quality care and education for our tamariki
  • Build warm, responsive, and respectful relationships with children and whānau
  • Support children's learning through meaningful play and engagement
  • Work collaboratively with our teaching team to create a positive learning environment
  • Participate in centre-wide activities and support daily operations as needed
  • Help maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all children

About You

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children under five years of age
  • Is nurturing, responsive, and passionate about supporting young children's development
  • Feels confident working in a busy preschool environment
  • Demonstrates strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Values diversity and enjoys working in a multicultural setting
  • Shows initiative, flexibility, and a willingness to support where needed
  • Has a genuine commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of children

An ECE qualification is not required for this role; however, previous experience working with young children is essential.
