ECE Caregiver (BestStart Onslow Rd)
About the Role:
The caregiver for our under-three tamariki plays a vital role in supporting children through the most significant period of early brain development and emotional growth. This position is centered on providing warm, responsive, and consistent care that fosters secure attachments, wellbeing, and a strong sense of belonging for infants and toddlers. Working closely with our teaching team, you help create a calm, safe, and nurturing environment where our youngest learners can explore the world through play, sensory experiences, movement, and meaningful interactions. Through attentive observation and responsive practice, the caregiver supports each child’s emerging communication, curiosity, and independence while respecting their individual rhythms, routines, and developmental stages.
A key aspect of this role is supporting daily care routines such as feeding, sleeping, and nappy changing in ways that are unhurried, respectful, and relationship focused. These moments are seen as valuable opportunities for one-to-one connection, language development, and trust building. By engaging in responsive conversations, singing, storytelling, and play, the caregiver nurtures early literacy, social skills, and emotional confidence.
Ultimately, this role is about more than supervision or routine care-it is about building trusting relationships, supporting emotional security, and providing the responsive, loving care that enables our youngest tamariki to thrive in their first years of learning and life. This is a permanent position working 40 hours per week Monday-Friday
