Bidfood, one of New Zealand’s leading food distribution companies, is looking for a capable, organised, and hands-on Despatcher / Driver to take ownership of our despatch operations at our Islington Distribution Centre.
⚠️ This is NOT an entry-level role.
We’re seeking someone ready to lead from the front.
🔑 The Opportunity
In this pivotal role, you will ensure the efficient and on-time despatch of our fleet — directly impacting operational performance and customer satisfaction.
Your key responsibilities will include:
✔ Coordinating and overseeing daily vehicle despatch
✔ Re-tasking delivery runs in real time
✔ Preparing and managing accurate run documentation
✔ Driving continuous improvement across despatch operations
✔ Building strong relationships between Despatch & Customer Services
✔ Leading, motivating, and supporting drivers
✔ Loading trucks and completing deliveries when required
✅ What You Bring
We’re looking for a seasoned professional with:
- Minimum 2 years proven despatch experience (essential)
- Experience managing a fleet of 20+ vehicles (strongly preferred)
- Strong knowledge of the Canterbury metro area
- Class 2 Driver Licence with practical driving experience
- Background in food warehousing & distribution
- Physical fitness (regular lifting up to 25kg)
- Strong organisational & analytical skills
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Reliability, punctuality, and self-motivation
- Clear and confident communication skills
- A leadership mindset — someone who leads by example
