As we celebrate 90 years of operation, Niagara Sawmilling continues to grow as a trusted and respected name in New Zealand’s timber industry. We produce superior radidata pine and timber produces for national and international markets.  With nearly a century of innovation, craftsmanship, and commitment behind us, we are proud to be attracting skilled and passionate individuals who share our values and vision for the future.

Are you ready for a stable role that offers variety, responsibility, and the chance to work with cutting-edge equipment? We’re on the lookout for a skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our site-wide maintenance team, with a key focus on supporting operations in our state-of-the-art remanufacturing plant.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who takes pride in keeping things running smoothly, enjoys solving mechanical and technical challenges, and is looking for a long-term role with real opportunity.

We offer genuine job security in a well-established, New Zealand-owned company that’s invested in its people. The work is varied, hands-on, and involves everything from routine maintenance to supporting larger upgrade projects. Overtime is available and paid at a premium rate, and we’re proud to offer flexibility around working patterns for the right candidate. You will also be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team that values collaboration and continuous improvement.

In this role, you will be carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance tasks, primarily within the remanufacturing plant, though you will also support site-wide maintenance efforts as part of a collaborative team. Your day-to-day will include troubleshooting, fault finding, and keeping critical equipment running at its best. You will have the opportunity to get involved with machinery improvements, safety checks, and modernization initiatives.

We are looking for someone trade-qualified in mechanical  maintenance, or someone who brings significant hands-on experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or production environment. You will be a natural problem-solver with a proactive mindset and a strong sense of responsibility. A team-focused, reliable attitude is a must, and you will need to be legally entitled to work in New Zealand—residency or citizenship is essential.

We understand that not everyone thrives under the same schedule, and we are open to tailoring hours or shifts to suit the right person. Whether you are after a consistent routine with regular overtime, or need to explore a more flexible working arrangement, we are happy to talk options.
