About the role

As part of our strategic vision, we are undergoing a comprehensive technology transformation journey. The Data Engineer will be primarily tasked with supporting CIP projects and assisting with data analysis, integration, migrations, and BI (Business Intelligence) development across the organisation.  

The Data Engineer will work with business stakeholders and project teams ensuring accurate and efficient data analysis, integration, migration and Business Intelligence solutions are delivered within required timelines as well as actively assists in the maintenance and development of the CIP Data Platform and Business Intelligence (BI) systems. This is a permanent full-time position, based at our Head Office in Tauranga. 

Reporting to the Data Architect Manager, the Data Engineer will be primarily responsible for: 

  • Providing a pro-active approach with a strong focus on timely enhancement delivery, data quality and accuracy
  • Working with project teams and vendors in the migration of data from our legacy systems to new systems.
  • Responding to the needs and questions of users concerning reporting and data, providing technical support as required, initiate and implement solutions that add value to both the business as well as clients.
  • Developing enhancements for the CIP Data Platform (Synapse) and Business Intelligence (BI) systems so as to improve the ability of the systems in delivering key metrics and analytics to the Business.
  • Providing ongoing support and essential maintenance to the CIP Data Platform (Synapse) and Business Intelligence (BI) systems to improve efficiency and reduce operational risks.

About you 

This role will suit an experienced Data Engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment in a fun and collaborative team. The successful candidate will operate within the parameters of the NZX rules and regulations, relevant legislation and CIP procedures and policies as well as have:

  • Advanced Microsoft SQL skills – with a minimum of 10+ years of experience on SQL Server 2008 to 2019+ (Azure SQL experience beneficial)
  • Advanced BI and reporting experience using tools such as SSRS and Power BI (DAX).
  • Advanced Integration Experience using tools such as SSIS, SQL Agent Jobs.
  • Data Modelling and Engineering experience using tools such as Synapse Data Lake, Synapse Data Warehouse (or similar data platform environments).
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills, ability to work under pressure and prioritise
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, effective influencing and relationship management skills and ability to meet tight schedules
