Data Engineer x 2
New Plymouth, Wellington and Auckland are our preferred locations
Contract Fixed Term – 12 months

We’re on the lookout for two proactive data professionals to join our team as our Data Engineers. If you enjoy working across systems, databases, and platforms and like collaborating with others to solve meaningful problems, this could be a great fit. The heart of this role is all about lifting our Business Intelligence (BI) platform and making sure our data is accurate, reliable, and trusted.

About the role

As a Data Engineer, you’ll work across software development, system architecture, and day-to-day operations. You’ll help design, build, and improve data pipelines and platforms that support smart decision-making across the business. You’ll be hands-on in strengthening our BI capability while championing high standards of data quality and integrity.

Who are you?

You’re someone who enjoys joining the dots, helping data flow smoothly between systems, both internally and externally. You’re a quick learner who feels comfortable working alongside a range of stakeholders to explore ideas, troubleshoot issues, and turn solutions into reality.

You bring sound judgement, strong business awareness, and the confidence to work through ambiguity and risk when needed. You’re collaborative by nature and enjoy being part of a supportive, team-first environment.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in software development, with a strong focus on scripting (especially Python)
  • Experience working with cloud platforms, ideally Microsoft Azure
  • Solid SQL capability and hands-on experience with database technologies
  • Exposure to ETL processes or data integration tools
  • Strong skills in Python and PySpark

You will bring experience with:

  • Databricks, Azure Data Factory, and SQL
  • Data warehousing platforms such as Synapse, Azure DWH, Redshift, or Teradata
  • Apache Spark on cloud platforms (AWS/Azure) and tools like Airflow
  • Cloud infrastructure and deployment (AWS or Azure), plus BI tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • High-volume data environments, including batch processing
  • Virtualisation and container technologies (Docker, Rancher, VMware)
  • CI/CD practices
  • Managing Linux server environments, ideally using configuration tools like Ansible

What’s in it for me?

At TSB, we’re small enough to genuinely care about our customers, and our people, but big enough to offer great products, competitive rates, and modern digital solutions. Our goal is simple: to be the easiest bank to deal with.

We focus on creating remarkable experiences for our people, because we know that when our teams thrive, our customers do too.

You’ll also be joining a profit-for-purpose organisation. We’re 100% owned by the Toi Foundation, a philanthropic trust, and our profits are reinvested to make a real difference in our communities across Aotearoa.

We value individuality and believe our differences make us stronger. That’s why we’re committed to supporting your wellbeing, helping you bring your whole self to work, and giving you the space to grow — personally and professionally.

If you’re keen to get stuck in with a collaborative, supportive team and do work that genuinely matters… apply now.
