 About us 

Manawatu-Wanganui Local Authority Shared Services (MW LASS) was established to support strategic collaboration between councils within the Region. Our debt collection unit has been set up under MW LASS specialising in Local Government debt to provide a proactive and consistent approach. We are a fast-growing, highly successful service for 25 councils across NZ.

The role 

We are looking for a switched-on individual who can work in a small team, and as a team to achieve a successful outcome in managing overdue invoices and debt as a Debt Management Officer. 

The role would see you undertaking a crucial role in supporting customers to manage their debt by negotiating an acceptable resolution to both parties to actively repay outstanding owed amounts. 

We process and manage the collection of debt on behalf of our clients which are mainly district and regional councils.  This is a full time position (40 hours per week), based at our office in Feilding, with little or no field work required. 

About you

We are looking for a person who can empathise with the customer but also can strive to achieve a positive outcome, managing the relationship to a successful conclusion. Interpersonal skills are essential with proven negotiating skills and a solid business/office background. We need a quick learner who has the capacity to grow, adapt and learn from each client encounter to grow within the position. 

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience in debt resolution (but don’t be shy, it’s not a deal breaker);
  • The capability to apply learnings / principles from one situation to another;
  • Strong persuasion and influencing skills - a proven negotiator and results driven;
  • A high-level of attention to detail and the ability to multitask; 
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to work under pressure;
  • Strong communication skills, backed up with excellent written and verbal skills;
  • Experience in a customer centric environment;
  • The ability to be comfortable delivering an unfavourable message;
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite skills and experience;
  • The ability to foster excellent relationships with customers and stakeholders; and
  • A great personality to contribute to the current shared services team
