The role

Do you have a passion for educating and fostering relationships to uphold kaupapa Māori?

Horizons Regional Council is on a journey to create enduring, productive and healthy relationships between Council and Māori. As such, strategic planning has been put into building a cultural competency framework for Horizons staff. As our Cultural Advisor, you would bring the skills and experience needed to play an integral part in guiding us on this journey. The vision of the framework is that staff feel empowered and mātauranga Māori is valued, respected and prioritised to support and inform decision-making and action across Council.

About you

You will be responsible for providing sound advice to help design kaupapa Māori policy and practice; take a lead role in designing cultural training and coordinate its delivery; and help the organisation to develop positive relationships with tangata whenua.

The successful applicant will have a strong understanding of Te Ao Māori and mātauranga Māori, fluency in Te Reo, and the interpersonal skills to create a safe learning environment and to develop and maintain positive working relationships. To be considered for this role you will be expected have good judgement, be able to use initiative, problem-solve and get things done.
