Contract Milking Opportunity - Midhurst
Our clients are seeking capable and motivated contract milkers for their well-established dairy farm located just out of Midhirst.
The 100 effective hectare dairy farm milks 280 - 300 Kiwi Cross cows through a 22-aside herringbone, operating a 3-in-2 milking system all season. The farm is on track to produce approx. 116,000 kg MS this season (incl. calf milk).
The farm runs a system 3, utilising Proliq all season, with bulk PKE fed via trolleys to fill feed deficits. All young stock are grazed at an owned run-off property nearby, and the entire herd is wintered there for a minimum of six weeks.
The contract milker will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the farm, including:
- Milking, animal health, and herd performance
- Pasture management and feed allocation
- Maintaining a high standard of animal welfare and farm presentation
- Compliance with animal welfare, environmental, effluent, and health & safety requirements
The farm owners remain actively involved and are still living on farm. They are keen to work alongside the contract milker, not step away completely. You will also work closely with the farm consultant, with good structure and support around planning and decision-making.
This role would suit someone who:
- Has proven experience as a contract milker or senior farm manager
- Works well as a couple or partnership
- Is practical, organised, and stock-focused
- Has strong communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with owners and advisors
- Takes pride in animal welfare, pasture management, and overall farm performance
A comfortable 3-bedroom home is provided, with open-plan living, a wetback fireplace and detached garage. The school bus picks up right at the gate, making this a very practical option for families.
