Contract Milking Opportunity - Inglewood
Our client is seeking a practical and motivated Contract Milker for their newly purchased 89 effective hectare, flat to rolling dairy farm, conveniently located just 10 minutes from Inglewood township.
The farm is targeting 100,000 kg MS from 240 Friesian and Friesian-cross cows, operating a straightforward pasture-based system through a 20-aside herringbone shed with in-shed feeding.
To support the contract milker, the farm owners will employ and pay for one full-time staff member and will also cover motorbike fuel and electricity costs associated with running the dairy shed and farm. Contract milker expenses are limited to vehicle costs, administration, insurance, ACC, and general expenses.
Due to absentee ownership, the contract milker will work closely with the farm consultant to support day-to-day planning and key decisions. The farm owners will be visiting the farm regularly and maintaining an active interest in the operation.
On-farm accommodation is available, with a choice of either:
- A 3.5-bedroom villa with log fire, or
- A 3-bedroom home with log fire and basement garage
Good supporting infrastructure is in place, including multiple sheds for hay, implements, and calf rearing.
You will ideally have:
- Proven experience at contract milker or senior farm manager level
- Strong pasture and feed management skills
- The ability to work independently while communicating clearly with owners and consultant
- A practical, organised approach and pride in animal welfare and farm presentation
The contract milker will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the farm, including:
- Milking, animal health, and herd performance
- Pasture management & feed allocation
- Staff supervision and coordination of daily operations
- Ensuring compliance with animal welfare, effluent, environmental, and health & safety requirements
- Maintaining farm presentation and infrastructure
