Contract Milker, Bos Taurus Ltd, 510 Cows
Our clients are seeking a contract milker who truly enjoys farming and has good experience at managing cows and grass to achieve targeted production. A person with excellent communication and verbal reporting skills, proven pasture and herd management expertise, and ability take ownership of the operational management is required.
The milking platform is 180 ha effective and is of flat to rolling contour, milking 510 spring calved Friesian cows through a 30 aside herringbone with in shed feeding, ACR’s, and auto vat wash. Annual production is consistently 210-220,000 kgMS with the herd traditionally going OAD in February. There are two closely located run-off blocks totalling 106 ha effective that provide grazing and supplement support to the platform.
The supplement policy includes both pit silage and baleage that are made on the platform and run-offs along with 300 tonne of a PKE/pellet & mineral blend that is fed through the in-shed feeding system. There is currently no winter or summer forage cropping. 250 cows from the herd are wintered off at the nearby run-offs. A sound fertiliser regime is implemented and approximately 150 kg N/ha per year is used.
There are no young stock on the milking platform post weaning and the farm owners maintains the responsibility of rearing the 110 replacement calves.

Accommodation: There are two family homes located on the property, the first a 3 bedroom home and the second a 2 bedrooms and a smaller bedroom or office. Both homes are heated by fireplaces.
The farm is traditionally summer safe and is located 20 minutes south of Taumarunui. There are several primary schools locally and secondary schooling is available in Taumarunui. The area offers a variety of outdoor leisure pursuits including excellent mountain biking, skiing, hunting and fishing. Lake Taupo is within a 45 minute drive.
