Port of Tauranga is New Zealand’s largest port and international freight gateway. Our Container Terminal based at Sulphur Point offers a 24-hour, seven-day service for ship planning, ship operations, marshalling, on-board stevedoring and reefer services.

We are seeking a team member who is motivated and willing to learn, to join our highly functional and close-knit team at the Tauranga Container Terminal. 

The Container Terminal Operator will provide cover into two functions: Rail & Road. In both operations, the coordination of labour and resources to ensure the safe and efficient movement of cargo through our Port is the priority. 

This is a rostered position working 40 hours per week. Shifts are 8 to 12 hours, depending on the duties performed. Flexibility will be valuable in this role, as there will be shifts on nights and weekends. 

The role will undertake day-to-day logistic functions in our Receival & Delivery department with the aim of achieving the highest possible standards of customer service, safety, and operational efficiency. This includes:

· Accurately and efficiently entering and updating cargo information

· Handling customer enquiries and requests

· Liaising with external parties for cargo clearance and movement such as Transporters, Govt agencies and Shipping Lines

· Yard planning to ensure optimal cargo handling and turn times

· Coordinating the appropriate care of cargo

· Creation of cargo movement plans that ensure cargo is on time to meet export timelines

· Generating work instructions for straddle carriers and other Container Handling Equipment.

It is a varied and exciting customer-facing role which requires an individual who is self-motivated, diligent and organised.

· An excellent communicator who is positive and approachable;

· An adaptable and innovative problem solver with great attention to detail who is able to work under pressure and prioritise accordingly

· Focused on delivering excellent customer service by dealing with others in a professional and considerate manner;

· Highly computer literate;

· Strongly focused on contributing to a safe operating environment and maximising terminal operating efficiency;

· Confident to work in heavy industrial areas;

Experience in a Port, Rail or logistics environment will also be an advantage, but is not essential. 

Port of Tauranga is an alcohol and drug free workplace. The successful candidate will be required to pass a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol test and background checks.

Legal entitlement to work in New Zealand is also required.
