Ultimate Builders is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join our team. This role replaces an existing position and is a key part of our residential construction operation across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. 

The Role 

This hands-on role oversees residential builds from consent through to handover, including post-handover defects, ensuring each project is safe, on time, and delivered to a high standard. 

The role is ideally suited to candidates based near Matamata or Cambridge, allowing for a reasonable commute to our showhomes in the Waikato and Bay of Plenty, as well as to our South Waikato office. Some flexibility on location would be considered.   

This position will be one of two Construction Managers working within the team.

Key Responsibilities 

Programme & Subcontractor Management 

  • Plan, manage, and maintain construction schedules across multiple residential sites 
  • Coordinate and supervise subcontractors and suppliers to ensure programme adherence 
  • Proactively identify and resolve construction delays, resourcing issues, and sequencing conflicts 
  • Conduct regular site meetings and clearly communicate expectations with trade partners 

Quality Control 

  • Ensure all construction work meets company standards, building codes, and consent requirements 
  • Carry out regular site inspections and quality checks at all stages of construction 
  • Identify defects early and ensure timely rectification 
  • Manage post-handover defects and client walk-throughs 
  • Maintain accurate site records, documentation, and progress reporting 

Health & Safety 

  • Lead and enforce health & safety standards across all sites in line with company policy and NZ legislation 
  • Ensure Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs) are implemented and followed 
  • Conduct site inductions, toolbox talks, and regular safety audits 
  • Promote a strong safety culture and respond promptly to hazards or incidents 

About You 

  • Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Senior Site Manager in residential construction 
  • Strong knowledge of NZ building codes, consent processes, and residential build sequencing 
  • Confident in managing multiple projects and subcontractors simultaneously 
  • Sound IT skills with experience in using Builder Trend or similar project management software. 
  • Strong organisational and communication skills 
  • Proactive, solutions-focused, and comfortable working autonomously 
  • Full NZ driver’s licence
