We’re looking for an experienced Monitoring and Compliance Officer to join our Compliance and Regulatory Team and help ensure development across the district meets its regulatory obligations.

You’ll monitor compliance, investigate concerns and take action when needed — making a real difference to our environment and community.

Ō mahi – What you’ll do

Aroturuki whakaaetanga – Monitor resource consents

  • Monitor resource consent conditions and permitted activity standards. 
  • Carry out site inspections and record findings within required timeframes. 
  • Work with landowners and regulated parties to explain requirements and outcomes. 
  • Follow up non-compliance and prepare reports, statements and affidavits where required. 

Whakahaere me te whakatinana i te ture – Investigate & enforce

  • Investigate complaints and potential breaches under the RMA, District Plan, bylaws and other legislation. 
  • Determine and recommend appropriate enforcement action, including prosecution where necessary. 
  • Participate in enforcement hearings and clearly communicate outcomes to all parties.

  • Work constructively with our community and regulated parties. 
  • Uphold and support Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in everything you do. 

He kōrero mōu – About you

You’ll bring:

  • Strong RMA knowledge and an understanding of related legislation. 
  • Compliance experience in monitoring, investigations or environmental enforcement. 
  • Confidence preparing formal documentation and presenting evidence. 
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. 
  • A self-motivated and organised approach. 
  • A commitment to providing high-quality service to our community. 

A relevant qualification in environmental management, planning or a related field is preferred.
