About us:
BestStart South Road is a close-knit, family-centered early childhood education centre nestled in Hawera, at the heart of South Taranaki. Rooted in the rich cultural heritage of Ngati Ruānui, we prioritise respect and kindness in everything we do. Our team of educators are motivated, and diverse, bringing a wealth of experiences and cultural perspectives to our centre. We create a stimulating environment that encourages curiosity and risk-taking, fostering a love for learning in both children and adults alike. Respect is the cornerstone of our practice, evident in every interaction and decision we make. Together, we are committed to supporting each child's unique journey and educational success.

About the Role:
Working closely with the Curriculum Leader and the centre team, you will take direct accountability for centre performance including team leadership, staff management, family/whānau/parent relationships, financial performance, administration and compliance. We will count on you to provide effective leadership, encouraging and supporting all staff to achieve the set objectives, goals and behaviours necessary for centre success.
Along with your strong business acumen skills, you’ll also need to be a real people-person with experience of building and maintaining strong teams, community-connections and parent relations.

This is a permanent, part-time position, working 30 hours per week.

Role requirements:
You'll take pride in the smooth day-to-day operation of the centre! Being a great communicator and building fantastic relationships will be in your DNA.  Experience working within the ECE sector is preferred but is not essential.  More important is the outstanding energy and flair you will bring, ideally backed up by:

  • At least 3-years’ experience in a management or supervisory position
  • Experience in financial and operational management with astute business acumen.
  • Sound computer skills with Microsoft Office and database programs
  • Confidence and expertise to promote BestStart to the local community
  • Attention to detail and focus on results
  • Knowledge of current ECE regulations, Te Whāriki, and compliance standards.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills to support team growth and development.
  • Ability to maintain high-quality assurance, compliance, and facility management standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities with adaptability and compassion.
  • Proven track record of learning new processes and implementing them effectively.
  • Drive to achieve results accurately and willingness to innovate and adapt.
