Victim Support is a national organisation providing information, support, and advocacy services to victims of serious crime and trauma. Working with us would mean being able to make a tangible difference to your community, and to the lives of people who have experienced crime or trauma. 

We are now seeking a full-time Communications Advisor. Reporting to the Communications Manager, this position will provide vital support for Victim Support to effectively tell its story to key audiences and achieve its strategic objectives through timely, high-quality internal and external communications.

We are seeking someone who can add value from day one and enthusiastically engage with stakeholders, while ensuring the delivery of Victim Support’s communications plan and supporting the progress of Victim Support’s Organisational Development Roadmap.

Media and digital experience is a must. You will be a strong writer, able to tell a story effectively and sensitively, and identify, comprehend, and convey key narratives and messages. This role must liaise effectively with managers, give well-considered advice, and respond well to regular and open feedback from internal stakeholders. The role will have a strong content creation and management focus and meaningful engagement with stakeholders through high-quality communications and content. This role will take the lead on the majority of the operational communications for the organisation, allowing the Communications Manager to focus on strategy. 

We are looking at a variety of candidates for this role. You could be an experienced senior advisor looking for a values-driven organisation to make a difference in, or you could be someone with 3+ years’ experience looking to step up into a more senior role. 

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective stakeholder relationships
  • Attention to detail and maintaining accuracy under competing pressures
  • Excellent digital communications skills and understanding of media
  • Strong writing and content creation skills, being able to tell a story and identify, comprehend, and convey key narratives and messages
  • Strong sense of confidentiality and discretion
  • An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori.
